Royal Caribbean's OVATION OF THE SEAS (2016/168666grt/IMO 9697753/348m loa) first call in two and a half years, arriving late morning from Sydney, Australia, made for a very busy day at Ports of Auckland's Fergusson Wharf. It was also the very first time the 347m mega-cruise ship came alongside rather than holding position in mid-harbour. However, no flash cruise ship terminal for her, instead coming alongside at the Fergusson Container Terminal northern berth and treating onlookers to the sight of a very large (by NZ standards) ship spinning mid-harbour, in her own length, courtesy of bow and stern thrusters (and very little assistance (if any) from the three port tugs.
