HMNZS HINAU - the hulk of this Royal New Zealand Navy WWII minesweeper has for years  lain decaying on the Whakatiwai foreshore just north of Kaiaua, SE of Auckland.
For many years most locals have thought she is the former US-built barque GUY C. GOSS (which was run ashore at the same location in 1935). GUY C GOSS - was a 214ft wooden barque built with whaling money in 1879 in Bath, Maine, USA by Goss and Sawyer. 
The New York Times of 21 July 1891 states that
