SeapixOnlineDisplaying 2 of 5 ROYAL & SUN ALLIANCE - is lowered into the water at Southampton Docks, England. One of the first Kevlar/carbon fibre offshore boats, she was built in 1982 to a design by Nigel Irens and launched as FORMULE TAG. She was subsequently acquired in 1993 by New Zealand yachting legend the late Sir Peter Blake, being lengthened to 92' and installed with a wing-mast and a new centrepod. Renamed ENZA NEW ZEALAND, Blake and Sir Robin Knox-Johnson set a new non-stop circumnavigation record of 74 days 12 hours. Acquired around the date of this picture by Tracey Edwards, the vessel, with an all-female crew, attempted the 1998 Jules Verne Trophy but did not complete the race after a dismasting. Later still, as TEAM LEGATO, she was acquired by Tony Bullimore who entered the boat in The Race in 2001. Renamed TEAM DAEDELUS for Tracey Edwards' Oryz Quest in 2005. The catamaran, with possibly the longest careers of any sailboat was again lengthened to 105' and renamed SPIRIT OF ANTIGUA but on the night of 27 October 2010, she capsized in the Bay of Biscay en-route to Bristol where she was to have been prepared for Bullimores' attempt at the round Antarctic sailing record.
