SeapixOnline- Research & Survey Vessels - 1 of 1 TOWNSEND CROMWELL (1963/IMO 7309546. Renamed LAU TRADER) - a former fisheries research ship, part of the US national Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) fleet, she was decommissioned in 2002 and transferred to the Govt. of American Samoa. She is pictured in Auckland, NZ.
More recently she was bought by a New Zealand businessman Michael Swann who, along with a partner, between 2000 and 2006 defrauded NZ$16.9m from the Otago District Health Board in New Zealand. The pair were found guilty in December 2008. In October 2009, TOWNSEND CROMWELL, renamed LAU TRADER, sailed out of New Zealand bound for Fijian waters where it is believed she will carry cargo and passengers around the eastern Fijian archipelago.
