HMAS TOBRUK (L50) is the second RAN vessel to carry the name. Providing the Royal Australian Navy with an amphibious heavy lift capability, she is a multi-purpose troop and roll on/roll off heavy vehicle carrier. Launched in 1980, she was built by Carrington Slipways Ltd near Newcastle, New South Wales and can transport 18 tanks, 40 Armoured Personnel Carriers or 40 Australian Light Armoured Vehicles and for short periods only, can accommodate up to 520 troops.
