SeapixOnlineDisplaying 1 of 1 SEAMASTER, a passenger and vehicle ferry operated in Auckland, New Zealand by Sealink Travel Group, began life, or at least part of her did, in 1956 as the dumb barge WAKAKIRI. In 1986 she was modified, lengthened from 31.9m to 41.38m, widened to 10.5m, re-engined and renamed MN SUBRITZKY. Back to work she went on her daily run between Auckland's Half Moon Bay and Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf.
As the population of the island grew and the vessels services became more popular, passengers demanded a little more comfort during their daily crossings to and from the nearby city. So in 2002 the passenger cabin was enlarged and a new top deck cafe built.
It was only two years later that the now ageing hull was showing her age so in November 2004 she underwent major replating which saw her steering compartment and rear engineroom rebuilt, new prop shafts and new stern tubes installed.
As you can see, she is now going strong...... yet again.
As at 2023, she is now due for withdrawal from service to be replaced by the new Chinese-built SEA QUEST.
