SeapixOnlineDisplaying 1 of 1 PORT OF LYTTELTON - Still waters and sunny days as Lyttelton looked in 1986. In 2010 it all changed when a devastating earthquake hit the city of Christchurch and the general Canterbury region. The historic timeball station overlooking the port was destroyed as was much of the town centre. In this picture is the bulk carrier SWIFTNES (1972/12982grt/IMO 7206990. Renamed GENERAL CAPINPIN, PROTEUS. Scrapped 2000) alongside the Union Steamship Co's UNION DUNEDIN (1978/14444grt/IMO 7722621, ex-MEZARIO EMILIA, TFL PROGRESS. Renamed PROGRESS ATLANTIC in 1987, STENA PROGRESS in 1988, C.R. TANGIER in 1989 until 2001 when she became AEGEAN PEARL). AEGEAN PEARL scrapped 2014.
