SeapixOnlineDisplaying 1 of 1 YWAM KOHA (1968/486gt/IMO 6815691, ex-CLAYMORE II, ISIBANE, KONRAD MEISEL)
She was built at the Jadewerft yard in Wilhelmshaven, Germany in 1968 and launched as Konrad Meisel and later renamed Isibane.
However for ten years the tiny 483gt vessel served as a mail ship between NZ and the Pitcairn Islands sailing as Claymore II.
Her then owners Stoney Creek Shipping of Palmerston North gifted her in 2019 to the YWAM Aotearoa (Youth With A Mission) organisation, a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and traditions, dedicated to living out their faith practically throughout the world.
Now named YWAM Koha, she is operated as a mission ship by their subsidiary YWAMSHIPS Aotearoa.
The 48.5m vessel has been repurposed as a hospital ship providing free medical care and supplies to isolated Pacific Island communities.
Dental, medical and surgical procedures are given onboard in modified containers on her foredeck.
She is home-ported in Tauranga. Keywords: miscellaneous vessels, miscellaneous ships, general cargo ship, hospital ship, mission ship, shipping, auckland, port of auckland, new zealand, nz |
