SeapixOnlineDisplaying 1 of 1 HMS ARK ROYAL(R07/1981/20000 tonnes) a Royal Navy aircraft carrier and the flagship of the Royal Navy, seen outbound from her home base of Portsmouth. She was expected to remain in service until 2015 when the new generation carriers were commissioned. It was announced on 18 October 2010 that she was to become a casualty of the defence budget cuts and was scrapped with immediate effect along with her fleet of strike aircraft.
Following decommissioning in Portsmouth in December 2010, she was scheduled to be cut up. Her Harrier VTOL jets were decommissioned in 2011.
