SeapixOnline- Superyachts/Motor Yachts - 39 of 592 ALUCIA (1974/1142grt/IMO 7347823, renamed HYDRA) - a multi-role research ship catering to clients in the private sector arrives into Aucklands' Silo Park superyacht facility soon after sunrise. Operated by DeepOcean Quest, the 55.75m vessel carries three deep-dive submersibles capable of reaching depths of around 1000m. Normal operations see her carry a complement of 14 crew, a submersible team of 6 and up to 18 guests, scientists, film-makers and paying passengers all in luxury superyacht-style accommodation. ALUCIA has in the past been chartered by the Discovery Channel to attempt filming the rarely-seen Giant Squid in the depths of the Pacific and has also grabbed world headlines when acting as mother ship during the search for the wreckage of the lost Air France passenger jet in the Atlantic. Hollywood director James Cameron, now resident in New Zealand, once chartered ALUCIA to discover the wreck of the TITANIC and the ship featured in 2016 in Sir David Attenborough's Great Barrier Reef TV series.
