SeapixOnlineDisplaying 21 of 12204 The Cook Islands Police Guardian-class patrol boat TE KUKUPA II (IMO 4734245) departs Auckland for home in Rarotonga after a stopover in NZ following her taking part in the Royal Australian Navy 125th celebrations in Sydney. Launched in 2022, TE KUKUPA II replaced the ageing TE KUKUPA of 1989, a vessel one of 22, all built in Australia and donated to Pacific Forum members for patrolling their individual economic zones, escorted the vaka Te Au o Tonga to protest the French nuclear tests at Mururoa Atoll in 1995. Her visit to Auckland coincided with a visit by the Cook Islands Police Commissioner Teokotai Joseph, highlighting the relationship between the Royal New Zealand Navy and New Zealand Police in supporting the Cooks Islands and their maritime protection requirements.
