SeapixOnlineDisplaying 8199 of 11107 SEVEN SEAS EXPLORER (2016/55254gt/59774dwt/IMO 9703150) may be billed as "the world’s most luxurious cruise ship" but she, along with three others has been refused entry to some of New Zealand’s most environmentally sensitive areas. She is seen here sailing from Auckland on the evening of 12 January bound for the Bay of Islands but next day was seen drifting in the Bay of Plenty for diving operations. She has since berthed at the nearby port of Tauranga seemingly having missed calling in the Bay of Island.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises “Seven Seas Explorer”, Princess Cruises “Coral Princess”, Cunard’s “Queen Elizabeth” and Viking Cruises “Viking Orion” have all fallen victim to the more stringently enforced biosecurity rules relating to marine pests.
Biosecurity New Zealand environmental health manager Paul Hallett has recently been reported as saying that New Zealand’s rules relating to marine pests has not changed but the enforcement levels have increased to lessen the entry of pests into NZ waters.
