SeapixOnline- Superyachts/Motor Yachts - 27 of 592 ADIX - the 65m three-masted schooner owned by Spanish billionaire, heir and banker, Jaime Botin. Adix, built by Astilleros de Mallorca in 1984, initially arrived in NZ waters in the Bay of Islands last December. Botin acquired the spectacular Spanish-built yacht from convicted Australian businessman/fraudster the late Alan Bond In 2017, Botin was found guilty by a Spanish judge of having attempted to illegally export culturally important goods out of Spanish waters, namely the 1926-painted Picasso masterpiece “Head of a Young Woman”. He was sentenced to eighteen months prison and ordered to pay a €52.4m (NZ$88m) fine but this was doubled by the judge in early 2020 to three years prison and €91.7million (NZ$154m). Botin, who is currently still fighting the case in the courts, attempted to come to New Zealand earlier this year but was denied entry most likely due to New Zealand’s travel restrictions at the time.
