SeapixOnlineDisplaying 186 of 11052 HMNZS HAWEA (P3571) one of the Royal New Zealand Navy's inshore patrol ships, returns to base at the Royal New Zealand Navy's Devonport Naval Base in Auckland.
In the background, TRANS FUTURE 7 (2006/60401grt/IMO 9326093) - becoming the very first vessel to use it, Toyofuji Shipping's car carrier is manoeuvred alongside Ports of Auckland's newly completed but yet to be equipped northern berth at the Fergusson CONTAINER Terminal. Car carriers have been cramming the port recently, all due to the discovery of marmorated stink bugs in the cargo. New protocols see arriving car boats now coming alongside for fumigation rather than being fumigated offshore. As a result, the ships are alongside for far longer which means the port has run out of space at the usual multi-cargo areas.
