SeapixOnlineDisplaying 1 of 8 FJORDVIK (1976/3091grt/IMO 7423249, ex-WESTPORT) - Almost exactly on the stoke of 1100 a.m. today the final commercial shipping movement at the Port of Onehunga saw Holcim Cement's former cement carrier WESTPORT slip her moorings and make for pastures new. Now 40 years old, in her twilight years and carrying her new name FJORDVIK, she cast off and brought to a close a history stretching back to the years when the first settlers arrived on the shores of the Manukau Harbour in the 1830's, bought land from local Maori and began the establishment of Onehunga, one of today's most long settled Auckland suburbs.
Now owned by Polish company Aarlborg Pearl Shipping, the 3091gt vessel headed for New Plymouth where she will undergo a one week in-water survey before setting course via the Suez Canal to Gdansk in Poland for drydocking.
Following that she will head for a new career in the icy waters around Norway where she will continue in her present role as a cement carrier. In November 2018 she went hard aground on the western shore of Iceland as she was entering the port of Helguvik while under pilotage. She suffered a hull breach and oil spillage.
